Welcome Back! – Week one done and dusted
We made it. Celebrate together, we have had a really smooth start to the term. Congratulations to all the new staff who have completed the first week ever with students and families and each other. Students have settled back to school quickly and look really happy to be back.
Please send through photos of your students in class having fun learning. Just flick direct messages to me on messenger, and ill pop them up on FB.

If you took any photos from the first few days in the school year and can share them with the office, Kirsty would have happy to have them for the first newsletter.
Student update forms are being sent home soon.
As children return them, please send them directly to the office.
Until the bus drivers get used to pick up and drop offs it is likely that the big orange bus will not be at school to pick students up at the end of the day until somewhere between 3:10 – 3:15, every day except Wednesday. You can bring students to the bus area at 3pm if you wish, however you may want to have them stay in the classroom until about 3:10 so they are don’t have to wait too long when they arrive for the bus.
Education Assistants if you are bringing students up at 3:15 you may want to bring your bags with you so you can leave straight away (only if it is easier for you)
Assembly dates/times can be found on the term planner – attached below. Assemblies commence at 2:15pm sharp and usually go until the end of the school day. This year please do not send all staff if it is not necessary. Discuss in your class team what this may look like. Yesterday was a bit of a practise run and you may already be able to work out how many staff are needed. Staff can remain in classes to pack up, prep, plan etc.
After the first assembly, PL will be organised during assembly times and a timetable will be put out so you can work out with your class who can stay back from assembly and attend PL – if it is relevant for you. Things like SEQTA refreshers, PODD refreshers, boardmaker, literacy etc. will be some of things of the list.
Assembly is to be a positive experience for students. If students become distressed during assembly, or it is unlikely they are able to attend for a whole assembly please make a plan so the student can leave when they become too overwhelmed. This may look like sitting at the back of assembly, or by the staff room etc.
It is also important to leave space for a walkway at each side of the undercover area. It is also preferred if all staff are seated during the entirety of assembly and refrain from talking to each other.
Staff meetings will now be held on Tuesdays. Whole school staff meetings will be held in weeks 3 and weeks 7 in the staff room from 3:15 – 4:15. Please adjust your diaries to be able to make it.
Teachers we will meet as per our calendar from 3:15 in the staff room on teacher meeting days. It is important you attend these, so if you have upcoming appointments please try and schedule them on non-meeting days
Antoinette will be at school on Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday mornings only for the next few weeks while she continues to recover. These are the best times to see Antoinette face to face, however she is available on messenger and email and will hopefully be able to reply to you.
At present we have a few staff shirts available (the new designs) if anyone wants one. They are $44.00 each. Jan will be organising more uniform orders in the near future. More information will come out soon about this.
Most students will have received ipads. Students are unable to use/have access to an ipad until after parents have returned the 3rd part provider forms. There are only a few outstanding and next week Sean will come around to let you know which students we are still waiting on permission from.
We have a number of vests in the office if staff need a vest for duties. You don’t necessarily need one each – you just need to have enough in your class.
Locking doors at recess and lunch times
Please ensure you have locked your classroom doors and wet area doors at recess and lunch times. A number of our students are exploring all over the school at the moment including inside classrooms! The easiest way to avoid this is to lock your rooms when you are not in them.
JESC admin staff will be meeting on Monday afternoons 2pm'ish each week. If you have something you would like to have discussed please let us know. There will be a campus admin on Thursday mornings from 9:30am, please let an admin member know of anything you may want discussed during these meetings.
Tim has cleverly worked out a way to share our term planner electronically!
Tim is creating a shared calendar in our email system. He will share this with all staff and instructions on how to use it. That way you will be able to access an up to date term planner all the time, and can add dates of your own as needed. Watch this space!
All staff need to complete this training every 2 years. This training is access through IKON, by clicking the professional learning tab as shown below. It is a requirement to complete this training every 2 years. If you are due to complete it (or have never completed it) please do so in the next week or so. It should show in your “required courses” or “completed courses” list.
Who knew these two go together? On Friday 10 March Tim will be sharing some information about Technology based teaching strategies that can be used in the classroom. Cocktails will be available for those who come along.
More information will be out closer to the date.
Wednesday 15 February is the date to head down to Quinns Beach for an early morning swim! Sean will have the surf club open and there will be a BBQ brekkie. Shower facilities will also be available, so you can get ready for work. Even if you aren’t a keen swimmer come down, say hello and grab some brekkie anytime from 6:15am onwards
Every Friday is Hawaiian Shirt Day! Staff are encouraged to wear a Hawaiian shirt (if you like) on Friday just to brighten up the school and celebrate the end of the week.
Students are able to wear faction shirts each Friday.
It is not a requirement, however students can if they wish to.
