Friday 2nd June Staff Development Day
Monday 5th June WA Day Public Holiday
Further to our conversation this morning, Sue Norman and Linda Moore phoned the union, and asked some questions, this is the response they received.
June 2nd Staff Development Day 8:15am – 3:00pm
Most things are ready for the day, which will be held at Hillary’s Yacht Club. Morning tea and lunch will be provided. They day will be spent looking at how we can best support our students.
An agenda will come out next week, and in a nutshell we will be going through our responsibility as a QTS (Quality Teacher School) and what this means for us, as well as working on key topics for our school and students. We will spend 2 x 2 hour sessions in small groups looking at these areas.
I will be sending out a survey to see what your preferences are. Ideally there will be groups of about 9-10 people backward chaining on working toward a common goal.
Next Tuesday afternoon we have a teacher meeting. The focus of this meeting will be for us to go through reports together, as well as give you time to start to upload/make sure everything works. If you have a laptop please bring it with you to the staff room.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice
Later this year there will be a referendum on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voices in parliament, and we will all need to vote. Lisa Rodgers held a Webex yesterday encouraging us to be prepared for questions by our parents and communities in terms of what our opinion is, how we might vote etc.
Lisa said as people we are entitled to hold whatever opinions we like, and vote however we like… however as employees of the Department of Education we must be mindful of a response/opinion we give to others if they feel we are representing the department.
The referendum proposes an alteration to the Constitution to recognise First Peoples of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to make representations to the Parliament and the Executive Government of the Commonwealth on matters relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Further information about this (in terms of working for DoE) can be found below.
Students commence full time prac next week. They have been coming each Friday – and now they will complete a block of time.
Sue has fabulously organised a school of the year celebratory do on May 26th at the Breakwater. If you are free that night come along! It will a great night to get together, away from school, just with us! It doesn’t get to happen very often.
Please complete the poll on Messenger so Sue has an idea of people attending.
