*Reminder that Craft Club has been cancelled for Term 2
Please find below clarification on leave and the requests and processes:
1. Sick Leave
a) If you are sick, please do not come to work. As soon as you make the decision you are unwell and cannot come to work please let Admin know. (preferably Antoinette for Education Assistants and Jan/Sean/Nat for teachers). However, understandably when you are sick you aren’t always thinking straight! If you are unable to organise your own relief it will be done for you. You can let admin know via messenger/text/phone call. If you have organised relief please put this in your message too. Please process in HRMIS as soon as possible. In close of pay week you will get a reminder if you haven’t processed this in HRMIS timeously.
2. Carers leave
a) If you need to take time off to care for someone else (this includes taking them to appointments etc) then the same procedure applies as above.
- Any form of evidence you can provide for the above leave types are welcomed. Evidence will be required if you are away from school for more than 2 days in a row. Evidence can be sent to Antoinette via email or Messenger.
- Evidence is required before and after a long weekend / public holiday and school holiday periods. Irrespective of the number of days taken.
3. Long Service Leave
a) If you are planning on taking long service leave you are able to take this all at once, or spread out, even taking one LSL day at a time, this includes Pro-rata LSL. Again the more notice we have the easier it is to plan for. LSL must be applied for and approved before you plan any time away from school. LSL is not automatically granted, it must be applied for. You need to organise your own relief and write this into the relief book so that admin knows it has been actioned. Please process in HRMIS as soon as it’s been approved by admin.
4. Any other leave
a) In the event you require/or wish to take any other types of leave it must be applied for and approved. Leave Without Pay (LWP) will not be approved for you to have a holiday/get cheap flights/celebrate a birthday etc. unless there are extenuating circumstances. This leave must be applied for and approved before you plan any time away from school. You need to organise your own relief and write this into the relief book so that admin knows it has been actioned.
Applying for leave looks like coming and having a face to face conversation about your leave with an admin team member (Antoinette, Jan, Sean or Nat) or to put in writing via email. If you plan to be away and let us know retrospectively your leave application will be denied.
And finally – finding relief. It’s quite simple. If you know in advance that you’re going to be away from school for any reason, everyone arranges their own relief. Kellie will only be arranging relief for sick staff or urgent requests that need to be filled and all else has been tried. Relief is every person’s own responsibility. Check with Kellie and/or Antoinette with regards to who has already been booked and have been written in the book. If it hasn’t been written in the relief book, it’s not confirmed…
Below is a link prepared by the Department of Education regarding information about the upcoming referendum. If you get time please have a look to gain further understanding about it.
Here is the link to the presentation “The Referendum Voice” Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice (det.wa.edu.au)
There is also a book floating around (most likely in the staff room) called “The Voice to Parliament” written by Thomas Mayo and Kerry O’Brien, which explains the Uluru Statement and gives some perspective to constitutional recognition.
Staff Development Day last week
It was a really worthwhile day last week – where we all got time to sit together and talk about our students and our practice. The information gathered from you will support a number of working parties who will use as a spring board to write the direction as where we go next as a school in these areas.
Kapture photos are ready to be sent home today.
Please see below points for any parent queries that may arise:
- Digital negative orders will be sent to parents email address supplied within 3-5 days of the school photo delivery. Parents may need to check their junk mail folders.
- Parents/carers are still able to place additional orders via the Kapture website. They need to use the same school code as previously supplied. There will be an additional postage fee included in the photo cost.
- If parents/carers ordered photos more than 10 days after photo day, the order will be handled separately and mailed directly to their home address within the next 28 days. A confirmation email should have been received for any of these orders.
Please make sure you mark off that you have given photo orders to parents and return the form to Kirsty for record keeping.
Staff receive a complimentary photo also. I will put these in pigeon holes this afternoon
On Friday families are invited to join and be part of the triple P program. This program is about helping children with challenges they face, and how to support their learning. All families are invited, and the session will begin at 9:00am in J Block on Friday. Please remind families about this.
Constable Care Incursion Fun/Scary
Kylie has sent out lots of information about this incursion. Attached is the resource pack, so you can determine if the incursion is suitable for your students or not. The incursion is only for our Education Support Centre students, so the incursion has been somewhat adapted specifically for our students. If you are attending please be ready in the undercover area by 11:00am. You can bring chairs to sit on, or mats, whatever is most comfortable for your class.
If it is cold/more appropriate we will close the roller doors.
There are a number of classrooms who have some furry friends in the classrooms! Both rats and mice have been found alive (and dead) in transportable and block classrooms. Please keep all food stuffs in sealed hard containers, and keep areas clean. Given the weather, they are probably looking for somewhere warm and dry. Pest control have been in, but it may take some time before they are all eradicated.
Wellness - Team reflective questions
At the staff development day last week, the staff health and wellbeing group created a number of “check in” questions that classroom teams can use throughout the day. Attached is the document, however a physical laminated copy has been created for every class / room for our school. Please put it up somewhere in your room that will encourage you to read and use it throughout the day.
Big thank you to the group for putting together the questions.
Staff members and their immediate family can use our employee assistance program.

I have been talking about “working parties” for a little while now – and the time has come where we can formalise these. There are a number of things that have fallen out from Fridays staff development day. Below is a list of the different groups that can form “working parties.” Some of these exist already. If you would like to be part of one of these please email me direct (even if you have already done so) and let me know which group you would like to be part of, and if you are willing to give up time before/after school to work on things. If you would like to be on a group, but only have during school hours, please let me know that too.
