It's been a big week, and for many, you may not get much rest over the weekend. Many will return home to clean up, wash linen and clothes, air out houses, and go through a range of emotions about what is happening around us with the fire. Please reach out to those around you if you do need anything, and take the time you need away from school to recover, and rest. Look after yourselves.
There are a number of student changes to classrooms. Max Noble is not returning to Joondalup next year - he has received a placement at Gladys Newton School which is a great outcome for him. This means there is a space in Room 16 for a year 5 student, which then creates a space in another class and so on and so on.
I would prefer not to send new copies of class lists out electronically until next year - however will happily print hard copies for people, please come up and ask and I can give you one
The department have made it mandatory for all schools to have a defibrillator accessible to the public onsite. Together with the Primary School we will purchase a monitored one (This means when you ring 000 they will give you a code to access the unit to use it – and it will also alert the school we need to replace items). It will be placed in the alcove of the dental therapy.
Our Canteen will be closed in weeks 9 and 10, and this will also mean the end of the P&C managing the canteen. The schools are looking at entering into an agreement with Locavora, who are a catering agency who will make the food up offsite and bring it to the school each day. People will be able to order lunch only, there is no option for a morning tea. At this stage we have agreed to taking orders on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays as these are the most popular ordering days, and we will then review it to see if we need to increase/decrease days. Here is an example of the menu - https://schools.locavora.com.au/lunch-menu/ they cater for lots of schools/organisations therefore the menu is quite large. I will let you know when this has been confirmed.
The school will always have morning tea and lunches available for students who do not bring anything to school.
The P&C will still host special events from the canteen like sausage sizzles, R U OK day, valentines specials etc. They may also sell icy poles or slushies some lunch times too.
So what happens to the canteen now?
We have actually gained a massive opportunity by now having access to an industrial kitchen. Breakfast club can run out of here, classes who are doing something special for cooking can use it and we may look into the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen program etc.
We have had a couple of changes with staff for next year. We have a couple of staff going on leave or not returning. No “swaps” will be made, however we are now looking to fill these positions.
Next week we have 3 teachers who will be joining us from other schools who will be coming to visit for the day.
These are: Emily Hall – Monday. Emily will be working with Steph on a Friday and will be releasing Bri/Danielle on a Thursday. Emily will spend time with these people and also the students she will be teaching next year. Emily comes to us from Merriwa Education Support Centre. She will continue to work at Merriwa on the days she is not with us.
Madi Rickets will be joining us full time next year. She will be visiting next Thursday, and will spend time with Deb, Lorraine and Steph. Madi comes to us from Craigie Heights PS and Heathridge SLP.
Brett Scoble will also be visiting next week – however we are yet to confirm which day. Brett will spend time with Louise, Chloe, Bri and Tyler. Brett holds his position at Aveley Secondary College (ESC) and has taken a year from there to work in the primary school setting. He will be working with us 2 days a week, and will be at Cloverdale ESC on the days he is not with is.
Next week we have a number of students who will be spending some time with us as they are joining us next year. I have attached a bit of a schedule that Sean has organised. Hopefully all classes know – I realise this is a busy time, which is why we have only opted for a short session rather than a whole day. Sean has also organised times for staff to go to student’s schools to observe them in class and talk with staff.
Next Friday is our carols by candlelight night. If you have students involved in the evening please ensure you speak with parents about where to drop off and pick up on the night. If you are volunteering to support students – please make sure you know what you are doing (Margaret will be able to tell you).
If you have volunteered for the sausage sizzle – we will be setting up outside J Block and plan on selling from 5:00pm. You don’t need to be there from that time, but anytime after would be appreciated. We will sell until sold out – and then we will pack up. Hopefully the BBQ will be all done by 6:45ish.
There will also be a small static display in the library celebrating 30 years. Wander down and have a look next Friday
From the beginning of next year, Compass will replace SEQTA AND INTEGRIS.
We are currently in a “sandpit” stage with Compass. This means they have created the system for us, and we can go in there and click buttons, add things in, however none of this will stay – it is just so we can play about.
This is the url to login via a web browser (E number and normal login):

Also download the Compass School Manager App, select our school, and sign in with your E number and normal login password.
There are also some training videos you can look at if you are super keen. Sponsor Toolkit
We will look at these and have some training on the first day next year.
