- Term 3 Parent Planner

Kaya,
It has been another busy few weeks at school, and all parents will be receiving student reports today. It will be sent electronically to the email address we have. If we have two email addresses (e.g. both parents/carers have given us an address) the report has been sent to both. You will have received the report as a link. I recommend you download and save the report via the link as it will only remain active for four weeks. If you would like to meet with the teacher to discuss your child’s progress, please get in touch. There will be some families who may be contacted by teachers for a meeting too. We anticipate IEP’s will be sent home in Week 4 next term.
Kapture
School photos will be arriving next term! If you would like to order photos, or need more information, you are able to get in touch directly with Kapture at kapture.com.au
Excursions
Our students have been busy out in the community with students enjoying the opportunity to go to Ape Escape during Physical Education lessons over the past two weeks. We have also had middle primary students attend an excursion to Cockman House, and senior students accessing our local IGA. Most recently some senior students performed to a number of other schools in the annual Education Support Performing Arts Concert. They had the audience joining in with the fun drumming songs they performed.

Open Board Meeting
Next term the Board will be hosting an open meeting, held on Monday 18 August 6:00pm in the staff room and lead by Mrs Hwee Peng Tan (our Board Chair). If you are interested in any aspects of the running of the school, then please join us for this meeting.
Parent Morning Tea
We will be hosting a Parent Morning Tea on Wednesday 3 September from 8:50am. This session will have a representative from NDIS who will be able to walk families through the process and what it means to self-manage or have someone manage your child’s plan. Early next term we will advertise more details.
Save the date – NAIDOC Week Picnic
Wednesday 30 July 2025 will be the school’s NAIDOC Week Picnic.
Garden Club
Some of our students have been attending Garden Club which is held once a week after school. Next term Mrs Bennett and Sue Schwerdt are hanging up their gardening gloves and putting away the shovels so Garden Club will not be running. I would like to acknowledge the outstanding work of Mrs Bennett who has shared her gardening expertise and enthusiasm with many students over the years. She has been supported by several staff including Mrs Schwerdt. Thank you also to the parents who have come to Garden Club to help with projects.
Thank you P&C!
On behalf of the students and staff, I would like to thank the P&C Association for their very generous donation allowing the school to install permanent AFL goals, soccer goals and some outdoor picnic tables and benches. A total donation of $13 500 has made these projects possible and we are beyond grateful.
I would like to wish everyone a happy and safe school holiday. The first day of Term 3 will be Tuesday 22 July.
If you notice any suspicious activity on School grounds, please contact Security on 9264 4771 or the Police on 131 444.
Please see below correspondence from Shayne Hutchings-Deputy Principal of Belridge SESC....
On Friday, June 27th, the Belridge Secondary ESC Auditorium came alive with energy, excitement, and endless applause as we proudly hosted the annual Education Support North Network (ESNN) Performing Arts Concert!
This highly anticipated event was nothing short of spectacular, bringing together students from across the network in a joyful celebration of creativity, talent, and community spirit. The stage sparkled with incredible performances from Mount Hawthorn ESC, Dianella Secondary ESC, Creaney ESC, Roseworth ESC, Balcatta Senior High School, Joondalup ESC, and of course, our very own Belridge Secondary ESC.
Throughout the day, the audience was wowed by a vibrant mix of performances—from energetic body percussion and powerful drumming to heartfelt singing, mesmerising dancing, inspiring band numbers, and dynamic cheer routines. Every act was a shining example of the talent, enthusiasm, and dedication that flourishes within our schools.
But the concert was more than just a show. It was a celebration of connection and growth—building friendships, confidence, teamwork, creativity, and pride across the network. The energy in the room was electric, and the sense of unity among students, staff, and families was truly heartwarming.
A huge congratulations to all our incredible performers! Your passion and hard work lit up the stage and made the day unforgettable. And to our amazing staff—thank you for the encouragement, preparation, and support you give every day to make moments like this possible.
The ESNN Performing Arts Concert continues to be a highlight of our year. We are so proud of our students and deeply grateful to everyone who helped bring this amazing event to life.

Garden of Weedin News
The vegetable garden is looking full of winter produce, with students learning how to plant and upkeep the vegetables and orchard. We have begun to cook with the produce in some classes. Take a look at our banana trees as they are full of green bananas. Our chicken coop is a big hit with the addition of a visiting rabbit, guinea pig and silky rooster this term. The animals will go home to my little farm during the holidays.
Our Green Team has been diligently working with the worm farm, compost system, 10c containers scheme and our many other recycling programs. The enthusiasm of these various teams has been fabulous. Just to mention a few of the teams who have named themselves; The Worm Wizards, The Coffee Crew (emptying and recycling coffee pods by material type), Compost Champions and 10c Container Collectors.
After School Garden Club News
The Garden Club had it’s end of term party last Thursday. This fabulous community team has maintained the garden, looked after the chickens and been involved in sustainable activities. Thanks to the 30 odd people who attend. It’s been fabulous to see many parents, grandparents and caregivers involved. Unfortunately, there will be no Garden Club in Term 3 as supporting staff will be on Long Service Leave. Watch this space for the invite in Term 4.
Recycling Programs
Please keep bringing in your 10c containers for change and other recyclables. Take a look at the recycling bins near Room 24 on the oval for what you can bring in. Make sure everything is clean and dry.
Bush Tucker Garden & Habitats for Wildlife Project
JESC students have been planning a Bush Tucker garden this term and the plants arrived for us to plant last week. This is going to be a great learning area for the campus as it ajoins the Yarning Circle and Noongar Seasons wall art. Classes will be able to integrate Noongar traditional seasonal food practices into ‘On Country’ learning opportunities. Metal signs will go up to explain what the edible plant is and it’s uses in cooking and medicine. This area will also serve as new habitat to encourage Honeyeater birds and native bees to visit and set up home. JESC students have been selected to participate in a Habitats for Wildlife joint project with Perth Zoo. This has involved visiting the zoo, surveying our school, planning, planting native flowering shrubs, making bird water stations and native bee homes. Students will then monitor the honeyeaters and bees to see if the habitat they created is successful. The students have also made bird boxes to go up around the school.
Waste Sorted School of the Year Nomination
Our school has been nominated for Waste Sorted School of the Year. This award recognises the effort schools do to reduce their waste footprint. Let’s hope we get into the finals!
Junior Landcarers
Did you know Joondalup Schools have been awarded Junior Landcarer status? This means the actions we do around the school and in our classrooms for the environment and sustainability is recognised as making a significant different to waste reduction and enhancing our biodiversity.
Happy gardening and recycling,
Sandra Bennett – Environment & Sustainability Teacher

This term in STEM, Rooms 1 and 3 have been exploring Biological Science with a focus on animal homes and shelters. As a pilot school for Perth Zoo’s exciting new learning program, Habitat for Wildlife, our students have been exploring the many factors that influence where and how animals live—including habitat types, environments, weather, food sources, and shelter needs.
As part of our learning journey, students:
- Designed and built birdhouse boxes for Australian native honeyeater birds
- Completed guided “Art Hub” animal drawings
- Created habitats using a range of construction materials and blocks
- Cooked themed treats including a “fishbowl” and a “bird’s nest”
- Investigated how human homes are designed, blueprinted, and built
It’s been a hands-on, creative and inspiring term of discovery. Amazing work Room 1 and 3!!

Celebrating Joondalup School Art Competition for 2025.
I'm excited to share the latest updates from the Visual Arts Room!
We are thrilled to announce that several of our talented students have been selected for this year’s Joondalup School Art Competition! The standard of entries was exceptionally high once again, making it a tough task for the judges. Congratulations to Michal, Reece, Noah and Hamish – your incredible artwork is now proudly on display at Whitford Library until Friday, 4 July 2025. We encourage families to visit and celebrate their creativity!
Years 3, 4 & 5 students have been experimenting with colour theory, focusing on the difference between warm & cool colours. One of their recent projects was the Cool & Warm Colour Symmetry Heart – a fun and expressive activity where students painted one side of a heart, then folded and pressed to create a symmetrical print. This project encouraged creativity while reinforcing colour concepts and symmetry in a hands-on, engaging way. You can view these vibrant artworks proudly displayed in our classroom windows – they look amazing!

Colour Blindness
It’s good to know if a child is colour blind, as they may struggle in school with activities that use colours, such as drawing and sorting blocks.
Colour blindness might become obvious after the age of 4 years and is more common among boys. Children who are colour-blind can see as clearly as other children but cannot tell the difference between some colours or see colours differently from other children. This usually happens with reds and greens, and sometimes with blues and yellows.
If your child is colour blind, it’s good to inform their teacher about the condition. This will allow the teacher to choose activities that don’t involve spotting colour differences.
For further details, please see Raising Children Network
If you have any concerns, colour vision testing can be performed by some General Practitioners (GP), Eye Specialists or Optometrists. You can also contact your local School Health Nurse, (Jacqui McCartan) on (0438263280) for advice.
