Kaya, We have had a fabulous start to term two.
The weather is changing and the mornings and evenings are definitely getting colder. It is the time of year where students may wear jumpers and jackets to school, then take them off as the day warms up. Please make sure you have clearly named your child’s clothing, so it is easy to return it in the event it is left on the oval, or somewhere outside the classroom.
In the coming weeks several classes will be engaging in Sensorium Theatre Incursions. These will take place over four weeks at school. This year the incursion production will be “10 Tiny Things.” Two lucky classes are going on an excursion to the Wonderbox theatre production by Sensorium on Friday. More information about Sensorium can be found here. Home - Sensorium: Disability Theatre (sensoriumtheatre.com.au)
Last Wednesday Joondalup Schools held an ANZAC Service for students, families and staff. It was a very respectful service lead by our students. Michal, Sahar and Xander represented our school by speaking and laying wreaths. Thank you to Hwee Peng our School Board Chair for attending and laying a wreath too.
This week we have welcomed Sarah Riky to our staff team. Miss Riky will be with Joondalup ESC for the next year as Mrs Hampson has taken maternity leave and is ready to have a baby any time now. We welcome Miss Riky to our PP / Year 1 class, in Room 28.
In Term 4 this year we will be having our school review, which comes along approximately every three years. We are unsure of the date yet. Some families, board members staff and students and Joondalup Primary School are usually involved in this process.
Our new junior playground is open! Students are loving the new space, especially the water play and fresh soft sand. It has quickly become a really popular place to play.
If you notice any suspicious activity on School Grounds, please contact Security on 9264 4771 or the Police on 131 444.
What a fabulous start to Term 2! Students have settled in nicely and are eager to learn.
This term in Talk for Writing, students are learning the story ‘Pirate Pete’. The students recently went on a treasure hunt in the Pirate playground, and we discussed all things ‘Pirate’. To continue the student’s interest, each student has observed or played within the Pirate role play area.
Room 22 have been working hard!
Hello from Room 22! We have been working hard and having fun throughout Term 1 and 2. Here are some highlights we would like to share.....
We love starting our mornings with YOGA!
We went on an excursion to High Flyers where we got to practice some gymnastics skills, jumping on trampolines and even got to play in the foam pit.
We have also been practising our ball skills with the team from KICKABILITY!
In Term 2, we are looking forward to going to the WONDERBOX sensorium excursion! We hope everyone has amazing Term 2!
This Friday 3 May, students from PP-yr 6 will be competing in the Annual Faction Cross Country Carnival. Events will be held between Windermere Oval (years 2-6), and the Joondalup Schools oval (PP-yr 1). All students will be supported if they participate and, where appropriate, able to participate in a modified course. If you do not wish for your child/ren to participate, please see speak to the classroom teacher.
Please see approximate times attached if you would like to watch your child participate.
Garden of Weedin News
The vegetable garden and orchard have begun to produce some early food. During lessons many students have observed animals in the garden, including a bobtail lizard, and tasted the vegetables. The banana tree has some little green bananas on, and we all look forward to eating them. Unfortunately, the orchard has lost most of its fruit as the children have picked them when unripe. It would be a big help if you could encourage your child to be responsible and only pick produce when directed by staff.
Our Green Team has been diligently working with the worm farm, compost system, 10c containers scheme and our many other recycling programs. The enthusiasm of these various teams has been fabulous. A few of the teams have named themselves; The Worm Wizards, The Coffee Crew (emptying and recycling coffee pods by material type), Compost Champions and 10c Container Collectors. Watch out for the 10c container posters designed by ESC Year 5 & 6 that are going up around the school to encourage you to bring them to school so we can raise funds for a recycled plastic picnic table.
After School Garden Club News
The Garden Club commences this week and will run every Thursday 3.15-4pm from weeks 3 to 10. At the moment the club is full. Term 2 participants need not reregister as they have been rolled over into Term 2 due to missed sessions. Should there be a vacancy, you will be notified.
Battery Recycling Program
Joondalup Schools have joined the Battery Rescue Program. Did you know that in Australia, each year, over 300 million household batteries are thrown away with ordinary waste? Less than 3% are recycled meaning a staggering 14,000 tonnes of batteries end up in landfill. Please place them in the battery recycling bin that is part of our recycling station. (Outside demountable on the oval). While you’re there, see what else you can recycle at our community hub. We will keep you posted on our progress!
Term 2 is set to be another busy, messy and fun term in the Art Room.
I am thrilled to share the exciting art lessons and projects we have been doing. Our students in Years 5 and 6 have begun their creative journey by designing and creating artwork for the City of Joondalup’s Art competition. The winning piece will be showcased on the digital tower at Yagan Square, with other entries displayed at the City of Joondalup libraries. It's a fantastic opportunity for our young artists! It’s going to be very challenging to choose only six entries.
Students have been diving into the world of sand art, and it has been an exciting journey so far. Mixing sand and paint has provided a wonderful opportunity for our young artists to explore texture and colour mixing and engage in a sensory experience like no other. The thickness of the sand paint has allowed them to create stunning 3D paintings, adding a whole new dimension to their artwork. Witnessing their creativity and enthusiasm shine through during this process has been a joy.
We have a lot of creativity and imagination to share this term, and I can't wait for you to see the amazing artwork our students will produce. Stay tuned for more updates on their artistic journey!
