Swimming Lessons
It has been a big week of swimming lessons! Although the weather has not been ideal for swimming, students and staff have braved the cold for some fun in the pool, while learning lots of water safety, awareness and swimming strokes.
Our school bus made its maiden voyage with students to and from swimming each day, and is very popular as it has a TV on it, and students have been watching Frozen on the way to and from lessons.
Children’s Book Week
This year’s theme is ‘Reading is Magic’ and magic always happens on dress up day. All students are invited to come to school on Wednesday dressed as their favourite character or item from a book. We have a busy few weeks of sporting events at Joondalup. We recently had our mini Olympics which was a great day for everyone. It gave students lots of practice at running, cheering, getting ready for their race and tabloid activities. Many organisations came in the afternoon for our upper primary students and ran lots of come and try sessions. Huge thank you to Mrs Smith and Ms Martin for organising this. Please enjoy Mrs Smith's article and photos from the day in this newsletter.

Room 27 has had a very busy start to Term 3!
In Talk for Writing we have been looking at Information Reports, which focus on different types of animals. We have been using our research skills to find specific information related to our chosen animal, including their classification, description, diet, and habitat. So far, we have looked at some different types of Australian animals as well as Emperor Penguins. As part of our introduction to Emperor Penguins, we had two challenges. Our first challenge was to rescue the Emperor Penguins from the snow and then we had to find as many animals as we could that were hiding in the ice!
In Week 3, we had the Mini Olympics which was so much fun! We spent the day participating in a range of activities including running races, tabloid games and team games. Each of us had a great day and these were our favourite games:
Aamiley: Volleyball
Jasmine: Tennis
Lilly: Gymnastics
Henry: Soccer
Cohen: Cricket
Rahaf: Basketball
Room 27 wishes everyone a great rest of the term!

Room 29 celebrate the Olympics
Last week Room 29 celebrated our Australian Olympic journey by participating in the JESC Mini Olympics. We got to experience running races, tennis, gymnastics and basketball. It was such a lovely day, and the children had a great time showing off their amazing athletic skills!! After lunch we also got to hang out at our playground and practice our climbing skills.
Now that the Olympics have wrapped up, Room 2 has kicked off their own Potato Olympics in class and they're having a blast!
To start, students dressed up potatoes as athletes. We discussed the many places Olympic athletes come from and the variety of uniforms they wear.
Once the potato athletes were ready, we held our opening ceremony. Students paraded in front of the school with their potato athletes, leading the way with the Olympic flame.
Our first event was bowling. Students took turns rolling their potato athletes to knock down pins, and we all shared some good laughs.
Next, we moved on to the long jump. Students threw their potato athletes into the sand pit and then measured the distance with a tape measure to see how far they jumped.
Later this week, we'll compete in the 1-meter dash and hill skiing. We’re all excited to see how it goes!
Welcome to the latest update from our vibrant art room! We are delighted to update you on the wonderful artistic journey our Year 3 and 4 students have embarked upon this term in Visual Arts. Our students have been immersed in a creative process as part of the upcoming Little Impressions Exhibition at the 2024 AWESOME Festival.
This year's theme, "Listen to Your Heart," encouraged our young artists to explore their emotions and express themselves through art. They began by creating unique collage paper prints using techniques such as rainbow scrape printing, squeegee painting, and kiss printing. These methods allowed them to experiment with texture and colour, sparking their imagination and enthusiasm.
Following the printmaking phase, students carefully cut their prints into strips to form the vibrant sun rays surrounding their self-portraits. This step encouraged them to think critically about composition and design. Currently, our students eagerly paint self-portraits, each a personal reflection of their inner selves. Through this process, they have honed their skills in self-expression and developed a deeper understanding of the power of art to convey emotions and experiences.
The 2024 AWESOME Festival, where our sun self-portraits will be proudly displayed, will take place from 24 September to 28 September. This event will provide a wonderful opportunity for our students to share their creativity and celebrate their accomplishments with the wider community.
Stay tuned for more updates on their artistic journey!
