We provide all students with a combined Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) specialist educational program. This program immerses students in a creative, initiative, and explorative learning journey. Students are motivated to explore and utilise their creative skills to solve problems and think critically.
Improved Motor Skills for Inclusive Digital Technology Education for All
Joondalup Education Support Centre is honoured to be a proud recipient of a STEM grant from Schools Plus. This invaluable support enables us to develop, design, and implement a targeted program that explicitly teaches and assesses essential fine motor skills crucial for independence in physical actions and activities across all learning areas.
Programs Vision and Goals
The primary goal of this project is to create a developmentally sequenced program that teaches fundamental fine motor skills required for effective interaction with digital technologies. By addressing the gap between pre-curriculum skills and digital literacy, we aim to equip all students with a structured, purpose-built learning sequence that fosters independence and confidence in a technology-driven world.
This program will:
Why This Program Matters
The inspiration behind this project stems from our deep commitment to empowering students with the foundational skills necessary for independence. Fine motor skills are critical for interacting not only with digital technology but also with the world around us. By focusing on these essential skills, we can extend their benefits into daily life, enhancing self-sufficiency and confidence in academic and personal settings.
How The Program Will Work
This program will provide individualised, targeted interventions, beginning with fundamental fine motor skills and progressing to contextualised digital technology motor skills. Students will advance through structured levels, building on key developmental milestones to improve their ability to engage independently with digital tools.
At Joondalup Education Support Centre, we are dedicated to delivering highly customised learning pathways through explicitly designed programs. This initiative, like all of our programs aims to enhance student independence by fostering skill development and utilising assistive technology. Upon completion, the program will help identify skill gaps early, allowing for timely intervention and support. This program directly contributes to JESC’s overarching vision: to equip all students with the life skills necessary to navigate the unique challenges they will encounter in society and throughout their specialised learning journeys.
We sincerely thank Schools Plus for their generosity in helping to fund this program. Their support empowers us to create meaningful learning opportunities that will have a lasting impact on our students’ lives.
As a Sustainable School and during targeted weekly lessons, we educate the students, staff and community in sustainable practices that will lead to more informed choices. We encompass environmental responsibility, staff and student wellbeing and community partnership. These include links with our Noongar community, afterschool garden clubs, wellbeing days, craft clubs and various partnerships with outside organisations.
We are a community recycling hub for coffee pods, Cash for Containers, dental hygiene products, dishcare products, plastic bottle tops, paper/cardboard and writing implements.
Sustainability is at the forefront of all our decisions. The students are our future.
The Arts are an important area for all children as it not only teaches specific skills and concepts but facilitates resilience, health and overall well-being. Our Arts program consists of Visual Arts and Music.
Our students transition to a dedicated art room and are taught by a specialist Art teacher. Visual Arts encompasses a wide range of creative practices using a variety of mediums. Visual Arts plays a vital role in developing fine motor skills, critical thinking, as well as numeracy and literacy concepts.
Music creates a space and opportunity for students to create, collaborate, produce, and generate ideas. Our educators have tailored education programs to support students to learn through experiences of music and instruments. Beat is a feature for our students, learning to set a tempo, and structure - beat is the heartbeat of music.
The Physical Education program is designed to develop fundamental movement skill and incorporate team-based activities to enhance health, wellbeing and fitness. The program is delivered by a specialist teacher and a physiotherapist with a core curricular program supported by individualised activities. Physical education is enhanced through partnerships with national governing bodies who support delivery both on and off campus.
We have two dedicated sensory rooms with tailored equipment and supports. With one room creating a calm space with bubbles tubes, infinity tunnels, light and sound student experience learning opportunities at every developmental level.
The other hosts pieces of equipment encouraging students to be active and move through our ball pool, swing, and other tailored pieces of equipment for students with special needs.
Our rooms have formal sessions for our junior students with a focus on communication, and discussing shared experiences. It is also available for students who require sensory input to support regulation, and to connect students with each other through engaging activities.
